Report Launch: ‘Lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic for the future management of long term conditions’
Public Policy Projects (PPP) will be joined by Professor Mike Bewick, Former Deputy Medical Director, NHS England, Dawn Chamberlain, Director of Clinical Improvement, NHS England and Todd Manning, Vice President and General Manager, AbbVie for the launch event for our new report Lessons from the Covid-19 pandemic for the future management of long term conditions.
The Covid-19 pandemic necessitated a complete transformation in how patient care is delivered. Fears of cross infection and an overwhelmed hospital service meant that, virtually overnight, traditional methods of healthcare delivery were no longer viable. Additionally, in England alone over 2 million people living with long term conditions were classed as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable at the outset of the pandemic, and asked to shield.
To meet the needs of these patients, many traditional methods of healthcare delivery were replaced by a digital approach through the use of telemedicine. This was paired with an enhanced reliance on data to ensure that people living with long term conditions did not get left behind during the pandemic.
A year on from this widespread re-configuration of the UK’s health system, and as services recover from the pandemic, led by Professor Mike Bewick, Former Deputy Medical Director, NHS England, we have collated evidence on best-practice and innovation that has been implemented during the last year.
This evidence, which will be launched in this report, will be key in ensuring innovation, best-practice and opportunities that have evolved during the pandemic aren’t squandered, instead, locking-in these changes for people living with long term conditions.
Sponsorship for this programme of work has been provided by AbbVie. Public Policy Projects has retained full editorial control.
