About this webinar
Join Public Policy Projects (PPP) to the launch of a new report which explores the barriers that exist in incorporating antibody testing as part of the current and future Covid-19 vaccine rollout, as well as potential benefits. Chair of the session Rt Hon Stephen Dorrell will be joined by Nadhim Zahawi MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Minister for COVID Vaccine Deployment), Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham, Director of the Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College London and Peter Harrison, Managing Director, Siemens Healthineers for this report launch.
The report follows a roundtable chaired by Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham alongside health professionals, the Department of Health and Social Care, Public Health England, professional bodies and more.
Discussions around the presence of antibodies and how long they offer immunity against contracting Covid-19 for a second time has been a key area of discourse throughout the pandemic. We now know that antibodies remain in the vast majority of people’s systems for at least six months following an initial infection, offering a level of protection against subsequent infection.
Thus there is clearly an opportunity to embed antibody testing as a key strategy in supporting the UK’s Covid-19 vaccine roll out, particularly as we move forwards with booster shots in the autumn, and potentially on a yearly basis.
