PPP was joined by Switzerland’s Ambassador, H.E. Mr Markus Leitner, Vice-President of the Royal Society, Professor Peter Bruce FRS FRSE, and Huawei’s Head of Public Affairs, Ashley Lumsden, for our session of the World Economic Series.

This virtual event, took place from 8-9am GMT on Friday 28th January 2022, instigated a discussion on the importance of technology in the climate debate through the lens of the steps Switzerland is taking to become a leading cleantech economy.

With the UK retaining the COP Presidency for one more year, the Ambassador, Professor Bruce, and Ashley Lumsden used this opportune moment to discuss the role that technological innovation must play to support different jurisdictions in their quest to reduce carbon emissions and meet their COP26 commitments. Coupled with digitisation and the 4th industrial revolution, decarbonisation will play a part in carving out those efficiency gains presenting themselves in the next few decades. Cleantech will be a key driver of green economic growth, but also provides jurisdictions with national challenges over financing investment, developing export competitiveness in new sectors, and ensuring workers are not left behind.
