About this webinar

Join Public Policy Projects (PPP) and Diplomat Magazine for the next webinar in our World Economic Series ‘How to Build a Healthy Society’.

We will be joined by Dr Peter Mills, Medical Director at Cigna, Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Professor of Epidemiology at University College London, Director of the UCL Institute of Health Equity, Past President of the World Medical Association, and Chair of PPP’s State of the Nation: Addressing the National Syndemic, and Professor Giuseppe Costa, Professor of Public Health at the University of Turin.

Professor Sir Marmot’s ground-breaking work on health inequality over the past 40 years involves a great deal more than simply health. Understanding health inequality as a symptom rather than a cause has led to the social determinants approach. Social determinants of health include location, socioeconomic status (SES), education and employment. Inequalities in health are thus expensive to the public purse not just in terms of health, but education, the justice system and employment.

Indeed, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) research ascertains that ‘the social conditions in which people are born, live, and work are the single most important determinant of good health or ill health, of a long and productive life, or a short and miserable one. Employing a whole health approach is therefore good for health but also society.

This event is kindly supported by Cigna.
