Virtual Roundtable 4: Screening for Type 1 Diabetes: An opportunity to identify early and improve diagnosis?

This is the fourth of four virtual roundtables, hosted on zoom, consisting of panel debates and keynote speakers.

This session will explore the opportunities for earlier identification and improved diagnosis and support for type 1 diabetes, including the possible role of screening. We will explore what we have learned so far from on-going screening research programmes, how earlier identification could improve the experience of diagnosis for the patient and local systems and how data from screening programmes could be used to continue to improve care delivery.

We will deep dive into the key questions during the discussion such as:

  • What could a screening program look like for children and adults?
  • Where are the barriers and unmet needs for people with Type 1 diabetes?
  • Where does the funding come from?
  • What ICS objectives can be achieved through earlier identification of type 1 diabetes?
  • How do we utilise data from screening programmes to continue to improve care delivery?
