Global genomics expert Mark Bale joins PPP
We are delighted to welcome Mark Bale, independent consultant in genomics, policy and bioethics, to our team as a Senior Adviser in genomics.
Mark brings a wealth of experience from his time at DHSC and Genomics England and will form an integral part of Public Policy Project’s Global Genomics Programme.
Over the past 30 years Mark has led and shaped government policy, providing expert analysis at the intersection between research, healthcare, ethics, and legislation. Until March 2022 Mark was policy advisor and Programme Director for the 100,000 Genomes (seconded to Genomics England) together with regenerative medicine and gene therapy, genome editing, precision medicine and rare disease policy.
Mark has represented the UK at the Council of Europe Steering Committee on Human Rights and Biomedicine (and was Chair of the predecessor Committee on Bioethics at the Council of Europe from 2014-2016).
Mark will add to our growing presence in genomics and life sciences, working alongside Senior Genomics Adviser and chair of our recent Global Genomics report Kate Orviss, Policy Manager Anna Dickinson and Policy Analyst Isla O’Connor on PPP’s UK and Global Genomics Programmes.
I am delighted to work with Kate and the team at PPP on their exciting initiatives at the intersection between science, policy and ethics. I particularly interested in helping continue the discussion on genomic medicine in a global setting.
